There is a way you can keep your short hair and still enjoy the benefits of long hair. It is to use hair extensions. Installing hair extensions and blending them with your short hair can be a challenge. So, how do you put on your extensions so that they look perfectly natural? The following tips should help you in achieving this result.

1. Choose Thick Extensions

Whether you have thick or thin short hair, you should choose thick extensions. Short hair will need coverage and it is better to have more hair to blend in and cover them. Consider these tips:

  • When getting two sets of extensions, choose the second set with a shorter length
  • If your short hair reaches the middle of your neck, consider getting an 18 to 20-inch set and a 14-inch set. This will eventually depend on the length you desire.

2. Style Your Hair

It is recommended to style your hair and extensions together. This can help prevent the extensions from being easily noticeable.

  • Section your hair from the bottom and work your way up
  • Clip in a row of extensions every time you section off the hair
  • Straighten/curl with a mix of your hair and extensions

3. Pin Away the Bottom Section of Your Hair

This will help hide the shorter pieces at the nape of your neck. You should section your hair to allow only a small bit of it to remain at the bottom and clip them away.

Comb back the remaining section and then braid or twist it. Use bobby pins to pin it against the nape of your neck. This is the point where the first weft of hair extensions should be clipped.

4. Add Waves & Curls

You are likely to notice the edges of your short hair appearing under the extensions. This can make your hair extensions clearly obvious. So, how to overcome this challenge? The solution is to add curls or waves. It will hide any visible short layers, provide a natural look to your extensions, and add volume.

It is best to curl the extensions before you clip them in. Once they are properly fixed, take the short hair strands and curl them with the longer extensions.

5. Mix & Match the Colors

A good strategy to create a seamless blend is to choose hair extensions in two colors. If your natural tresses feature different hues, it is recommended to choose extensions that match the colors of the ends of your hair. Else, you can go for extensions in two different colors.

The use of hair extensions on short hair requires some tricks to get the right effect. It can take a few attempts before you can get the desired results. We suggest using the tips mentioned above to create a seamless and beautiful effect.
